Artist's Statement

BE BOLD has been my mantra almost since I began making art in 2004. Relatively new to art making, the moment I began creating I felt like I was home.

Since my first simple collage, my world has exploded in a cacophony of color, texture, and mark-making. My favorite tool is my hands. I love pushing paint with my fingers, smudging pencil and charcoal with my thumb, scratching into a surface with my fingernails. I have been unable to concentrate on one medium. I love painting, collage, assemblage, and working with metal. I especially love combining a bit of everything together. I am energized by collecting and hunting for materials to use in my art, especially old worn out objects and ephemera. I am truly a mixed media artist. My favorite color is red; I like how bold, fiery, and decisive it is and red almost always finds its way into my work.

I am inspired by bright colors, raw images, unrefined and imperfect work. I am currently exploring being more fearless in my work, using layers, mark-making, scritching, building up surfaces and tearing away to reveal deeper truths, mystery beyond the obvious. When you look at something I have created, I want you to wonder about its previous life. I invite you on an archeological dig, getting a glimpse beneath the surface, but never the full story.
